In fact, that's my search term that led me to your article.

Would you be able to point me towards any documentation or article that discusses the implementation of an API Manager front-ending an ESB (both WSO2 products) so as to have a single uniform interface for the customers while having ability to perform heavy mediation before sending and receiving data from the underlying backed systems? I am currently exploring a POC implementation of APIM with ESB and any reference from you in this direction would be highly appreciated.

Thanks again! The Horizonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13755687173095241776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3885081710035101138.post-75875950456962599322016-02-01T02:51:04.760-08:002016-02-01T02:51:04.760-08:00Yes, BAM is the predecessor product of DAS and the...Yes, BAM is the predecessor product of DAS and the latest version of API Manager (1.10) is designed to be compatible with/support DAS. It helped me to understand some blind areas of the usage of APIM and ESB.

However as of the latest APIM documentation it states that APIM will not support integrating with BAM server anymore, instead to use the DAS server for statistical analytic. Would you like to add any note on that ? To an...Hi Siva, I'm glad you liked the article. To answer your first question, the API Gateway is one component of the WSO2 API Manager. Here is an excerpt from the user guide page [1] of the API Manager:
The API Manager comprises the following components:
API Gateway: Secures, protects, manages, and scales API calls. It is a simple API proxy that intercepts API requests and applies policies such as throttling and security checks. It is also instrumental in gathering API usage statistics. The Web interface can be accessed via https://:9443/carbon.
Key Manager: Handles all security and key-related operations. The API Gateway connects with the Key Manager to check the validity of subscriptions, OAuth tokens, and API invocations. The Key Manager also provides a token API to generate OAuth tokens that can be accessed via the Gateway.
API Publisher: Enables API providers to publish APIs, share documentation, provision API keys, and gather feedback on features, quality and usage. You access the Web interface via https://:9443/publisher.
API Store: Enables API consumers to self register, discover and subscribe to APIs, evaluate them, and interact with API Publishers. You access the Web interface via https://:9443/store.
Additionally, statistics are provided by the monitoring component, which integrates with WSO2 BAM.

Yes, apart from the gateway functionality, you can use the API Manager's publisher portal to manage the lifecycle of an API as well as apply throttling to the API. At runtime, the gateway will enforce the throttling rules.

[1] - https://docs.wso2.com/display/AM191/Quick+Start+GuideDakshitha Ratnayakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07333715103424803631noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3885081710035101138.post-8655747421051968442015-11-18T22:41:19.794-08:002015-11-18T22:41:19.794-08:00Hi Dakshitha, I am Siva from Chennai. Can we still assume that the WSO2 API Manager can also function as API Gateway in addition to lifecycle management, Throttling, etc? Please help me understand this better. Please reply or send detailed email to sivakumar.th@gmail.com. Thanks again. Siva Thankamaneehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14721829357695567320noreply@blogger.com
